Luna Park Day!

It’s official! We’re open for the 2021 season! On Friday, April 9th  we kicked off the festivities, our traditional egg cream christening of the Coney Island Cyclone. This year, to honor our local frontline heroes, we donated 500 admission wristbands to Hospital staff from NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island and their families, and frontline heroes from the hospital were the first to ride the Coney Island Cyclone.

“It is incredibly exciting to finally have Luna Park in Coney Island filled with guests and joy after a very challenging year,” said Alessandro Zamperla, President and CEO of Central Amusement International Inc.” We are tremendously grateful for all of our frontline workers, the heroes who have saved countless lives and continue to help our community heal; for all of our team members who have been waiting since October 2019 to welcome back our guests; and for our community that is so vibrant and resilient.”

“Since last spring when our first COVID-19 patient was identified, our incredible staff serving in every role in the hospital have given so much of themselves to care for the people of South Brooklyn, including Coney Island,” said Svetlana Lipyanskaya, Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. “After all of the stress and heartache, we are grateful for all moments of joy that we can share with our healthcare heroes. We are very thankful to Luna Park and Central Amusement International Inc. for giving our employees this wonderful opportunity to take part in today’s opening day festivities.”

Adding to the day’s festivities Mayor Bill de Blasio, honored Central Amusement International Inc., our parent company, with a proclamation for its contributions to the historic Coney Island Amusement District. Additionally, the NYC Mayor de Blasio, inspired us all to have fun when he took a ride on the Cyclone making him the first NYC Mayor to ride the Cyclone on opening day!

We’ve also introduced six new attractions for children, ranging from swings and coasters to racing games. The new rides include Circus Candy, Fire Patrol, Rainbowheel, AeroMax, Grand Prix, and Mini Mouse. In addition to the new rides, we’ve opened our new restaurant on the boardwalk, Salt & Sizzle!

We cant wait to see you!
